How to Calculate How Many Days Are Left in 2025

You can determine how many days remain in a year using several methods. The quickest option is to use an online tool, such as a days-until calculator, but you can also calculate it manually or with spreadsheet software.

Method One: Subtract the Days in Each Month

If the current date is in December
Since December has 31 days, subtract the current day of the month from 31:

Days left in 2025 = 31 − current day in December

If the current date is not in December
First, subtract the current day from the total number of days in the current month to find the remaining days in that month. Then add the total number of days in each remaining month through December:

Days left in 2025 = days left in the current month + days in the next month + … + days in December

If needed, you can divide this total by 7 to estimate how many weeks are left in the year.

This same approach can be used to calculate how many days or weeks remain until important dates such as Easter, Thanksgiving, or other milestones.

Method Two: Subtract the Current Day Number

Another simple method is to subtract the current day of the year from the total number of days in the year:

Days left in 2025 = 365 − current day of the year

(Use 366 instead of 365 in a leap year.)

To apply this method, you’ll need to know today’s day number (DOY).

To calculate the number of days remaining from today, use:

=DATE(YEAR(TODAY()), 12, 31) – TODAY()

For example, if today is October 24, this formula will automatically display the number of days left once you press Enter.

From Any Specific Date

If you want to calculate the days remaining from a date in another cell (for example, cell A3), use:

=DATE(YEAR(A3), 12, 31) – A3

As long as A3 contains a valid date, the formula will return the number of days remaining in that year.
